The first race day of the season was accompanied by glorious sunshine and brought two races for the team one in the Cloth Cap and One in the Touring 70’s
A good qualifying for the E-type with the combination of Michael and Mark Wright saw them take pole position on the grid by a clear 3 seconds. Chris Scragg then took out the Broadspeed XJC for his qualifying in the Touring 70’s first race since his first win at Mallory. He moved up the field from 6th position until he finally made 2nd position until a mechanical gremlin caused him to pit and retire from qualifying.
A great start to the Cloth Cap race saw Michael lead into the first corner with Nick Whale in his Ford Shelby 350 in close pursuit. Michael managed to maintain the lead and pulled a clear 8 seconds in front of the rest of the field when he pitted. Mark Wright took over for the second stint managing to increase the lead even further and took the chequered flag some 23 seconds clear of the rest of the field.
Great expectations for the Broadspeed in the Touring 70’s race where short lived as the mechanical gremlin returned after one lap when Chris was holding 2nd position at the time. This was a disappointment for all but should be resolved in time for the Masters Historic Festival at Brands Hatch where we are sure usual service will be resumed.
