Brands Hatch was the venue for round six of the HSCC Guards Trophy Championship. The E-Type Challenge had been amalgamated with the Guards once again, making it all the more difficult for a Class victory with sixteen E-Types competing.
M & C Wilkinson had prepared three of the sixteen E-Type’s for the event, with Chris and son Ant in XAN 555, Alistair Dyson in 3550WK and Conor O’Brien and John Bussell in XAS 885.
Qualifying saw Chris and Ant qualify 11th overall and 1st E-Type with only Nick Fleming in his Lotus Elan ahead in the GT class. Alistair was 19th overall and 4th E-Type and finally Conor and John in 22nd overall and 5th E-Type on the grid.
A fast and frantic start saw Chris challenging for the GT class win keeping ahead of Chris Ward and Nick Fleming for the first half of the race. Following their compulsory stop Ant resumed in the lead but by the end he could not match his father’s pace leaving them 3rd in class overall and 2nd E-Type home, Alistair in 3550WK came 7th in the GT class, 15th overall.
A special mention and congratulations to Conor O’brien and John Bussell who competed in the E-Type Challenge and finished third overall for their second E-Type challenge podium this year following John’s success at Donington.
